49.Wn.11 From Wax to Bronze
A segmented studio course for beginners. Emphasis will be on fundamental processes and techniques used in all aspects of lost wax casting (via ceramic shell), wax forming and fabrication, foundry procedures, and finishing. Materials fee $17.50 per pound for bronze due instructor.

50.Wn.11 Decorative Carnevale Mask-Making
Create a beautiful Carnavale Gala decorative mask to wear on February 26th! Using a provided mask base, trim your one-of-a-kind mask with feathers, ribbons, sequins, glitter, fabric, lace, sewing trims, flowers and more! Bring any extra decorative items you’d like to add! Materials provided. Wine and cheese party toward the end of class. (Please bring glue gun, if you have one.)

51.Wn.11 You MADE that? Sculpted Heirloom Carnevale Masks
Combine sculpture and modeling techniques to craft a unique mask. In the first class we will construct a wire & mesh framework, then shape claylike material to create the base of the mask. In the second class we will seal, sand and decorate the mask with materials provided--or bring in your own! Techniques learned may be applied to any number of creative projects. Materials and wine social included.

52.Wn.11 Hand-Painted Silk Scarves
We’ll explore various techniques of silk painting, using salt, alcohol and blending. Students will create their own scarves on 15” x 74” Silk Crepe De Chine. Materials fee $12 due instructor.

53.Wn.11 Mosaics
Experience the ancient art of mosaics with a modern flare. Students learn to create mosaic art and have an opportunity to create a gazing ball, picture frame, mirror, flower pot, 2-dimensional wall hanging, and more. Explore cutting techniques, adhesive choices, and design layout and finish the piece with grouting techniques. Have fun creating with mosaics. Materials fee $25 due instructor.

48.Wn.11 Cartooning & Comics 7 - 12 yrs
Here’s a fun workshop for all you kids who want to produce your own cartoons and comics. Cartoons are a great way to express your sense of humor and to convey an idea in a concise, visual format. Emphasis will be on conceptual development, storytelling, and refinement of drawing skills. We will also work on developing your own characters and comic strip ideas. Animated cartoons are shown near the end, not only for our amusement, but to really see how the pros produce great cartoons.

54.Wn.1 How to Photograph Your Artwork
Learn how to photograph artwork and create JPEG files, from choosing the right camera, lights and lens to color correction and saturation. Then learn to organize and format files to build a digital catalogue of artwork and email images for exhibition submissions. In between classes, do a practice photo-shoot and review for color corrections in second class.

55.Wn.11 Intro to Clay Sculpture
Learn about the different types of clay and their applications (polymer, water-based, oil-based, self-drying); practice the basic hand-building techniques (slab, coil, pinch, wafers) and create your own figurative or abstract piece. The material fee includes clay. Tools provided. $20 material fee payable to instructor.

56.Wn.11 Abstract Concepts & Applications
Discover the abstract artist in you! Learn about the fundamentals of abstraction: color theory, shape, and form. Explore abstract styles, vocabulary, and concepts. Learn acrylic painting applications using various mediums and surfaces: canvas paper, canvas board and stretched canvas. Materials fee $10 due instructor

57.Wn.11 Photo Shoot Mission District: Colors and Textures
Shoot photos of the colorful Mission District, right here in the Bay Area. Friday evening at PAL students learn the best techniques for shooting Mission District Murals. On Saturday students meet at the League, carpool to the Mission District and do a “Mural Walk” in the Mission, shooting photos of several dozen murals.

58.Wn.11 Monotype: the Painterly Print
Beginning and advanced artists are invited to explore the spontaneity of the painterly monotype process. Students can work with used etching plates, stencils, found objects such as string or feathers, saran wrap, foils and tissue paper to create texture and shapes. Class will discuss new and any former work that students bring to the class. See materials list in PAL office prior to the workshop.

59.Wn.11 Portraiture Techniques and Practice with a Model

Following a one-hour portraiture demo using a mechanical pencil technique , students create portrait drawings, learning about shape and line, keeping a light touch, and considering values and edges. On day two, following an instructor demo using the brush in a neutral dark to find the correct shapes of the model, students will choose to continue drawing or to proceed with a painting of the same model and pose, using a limited four-color palette. Instructor gives personal attention to each student. Model fee $58 payable at registration.

60.Wn.11 Photo Shoot: Half Moon Bay
Learn techniques on photographing outdoors on Friday evening at PAL. On Saturday, apply photo techniques to a shoot at Princeton Beach in Half Moon Bay. Capture the ocean, morning light, and fishermen arriving with the catch! Both days meet at PAL; Saturday, students will carpool to Half Moon Bay.

61.Wn.11 Floral Still Life Painting
Using oil or acrylic paint, you will learn fundamentals of painting: composition, value and drawing; and expression: color harmony and surface quality. This workshop focuses on floral still-life painting, using fresh cut flowers.

62.Wn.11 Fused Glass

Gain an overall understanding of fused glass techniques. Class Studies safety, basic fusing concepts, glass, hand tools, kiln use and coldworking. Students get hands-on studio time and will create 6 projects including pendants, coaster, slumping project, candel holder, and more. Glass, tools, supplies, kiln space, handouts and fun included. 64.Wn.11 Travel Sketching with Mixed Media
Find exciting new ways to enhance your traveling experience through a mixed media approach to sketching. Work with ink pens, watercolors, watercolor pencil, with the reverse on black paper, or use gel extreme metallic pens, prisma or watercolor pencils. Material fee $5 - 10 to instructor.
